Bench Press Mondays and Don’t Be That Guy
Posted August 12, 2008
Anyone every notice how packed the flat bench presses are in the gym on Mondays? I mean it must be the international bench press day. Whenever I am looking to do bench press on Mondays it always seems like every bench is full and a few people are waiting as well. To top it off, there seems to be like 3 people per bench just talking forever between sets!
I tend to do bench press on Wednesdays to avoid this problem. It can get worse before spring break and right after new years as well.
Another thing that irritates me in the gym is the same guys working out arms all the time. There are a few people I always see on multiple days doing curls, shoulder raises, and a few other dumbbell arm exercises. Some of these people have never gotten under a squat rack or lifted a heavy weight in their life. If you want to get big you have to lift heavy weights, do core exercises, and hit every muscle group.
Do not be one of those persons that only works out upper body and doesn’t put any effort into their training.
Anyone else experience the same things in their gym?

Got something to say?

Hey everyone. Thanks for stopping by. I am looking forward to sharing my bodybuilding and fitness knowledge and helping people acheive their fitness goals.

I completely aggree with you. I have seen people who list as much weights as I do when it comes to the upper body excercises, but can’t even do half of what I do for my legs workout. They think that the upper body is the only thing people are gonna see, but dont realize that not working out on the lower body makes their entire body look so dispropotionate. Like - Johnny Bravo :p
Yeah, it is pretty ridiculous seeing people that are really disproportionate!
I rarely see people doing squats or deadlift.
I’m training for an expedition that is mostly about endurance. I need to be able to carry up to 100lbs for 10 miles a day in cold weather for up to 3 weeks in a row. Having big arms or a burly chest will only slow me down and take up more oxygen. I am one of those guys who goes to the gym and doesn’t lift heavy weights for chest excersizes. It is not my goal to gain upper body weight, just maintain my strength with upper body excersizes once or twice a week. and do endurance and lower body work outs the rest of the week. Assuming everyone has your goals and calling them posers for not following what your work out schedule is the stupidest thing I ever heard.
I think you misunderstood my thoughts. I think it is silly when people put no effort in at the gym and ignor their lower body. I do not care what sport it is, you need to put in some leg work.
Good to see you are not forgetting your lower body. You seem to have a solid plan going for you and I wish you the best in your quest. 100 pounds for 10 miles is defintely a challenge.
I did about 60 pounds for 8+ miles when I as backpacking up a mountain and it was really tiring. Where will you be going?
Have you evere tried the training regmine HIT (High Intensity Training)? It bascially is a fast and high intensity workout that really works endurance and strength at the same time. You do plenty of reps - low to medium weight.
